Strengthening Our Organisation to Better Serve Our Communities
Bountiful Bridges is proud to have successfully completed a transformational organisational development project supported through funding facilitated by BAWSO (Black Association of Women Step Out), a leading Welsh organisation providing specialist support to Black Minority Ethnic and migrant individuals affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, modern slavery, human trafficking, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and other forms of violence.
Rather than focusing solely on service delivery, this project was designed to strengthen the long-term capacity, sustainability, and effectiveness of Bountiful Bridges as a community organisation. The funding provided a valuable opportunity to review our structure, strengthen our operational foundations, improve community engagement, and position the organisation for future growth.
Through this initiative, we were able to recruit two part-time Community Engagement Coordinators to support our volunteers, strengthen community relationships, increase awareness of our services, and improve engagement with beneficiaries and partner organisations across Newport and the surrounding areas.
The project enabled us to review and improve many of our internal processes, introduce more structured ways of working, strengthen volunteer coordination, and begin the digitalisation of key organisational activities. These improvements have helped us become more efficient, responsive, and better equipped to meet growing community needs.
As part of the project, we significantly expanded our network of community partners and supporters. New relationships were established with local organisations, food suppliers, community networks,grant-making bodies, and strategic stakeholders, helping us increase both our reach and the resources available to support local people.
The project also enabled us to strengthen our funding readiness, improve our visibility within the voluntary sector, enhance our website and communications, participate in leadership and organisational development programmes, and build stronger foundations for long-term sustainability.
Most importantly, the investment has helped us move from operating primarily as a volunteer-led initiative to becoming a more structured, resilient, and community-focused organisation capable of delivering greater impact for individuals and families across Newport.
Today, one of the positions initially created through this project has become a permanent role within Bountiful Bridges, ensuring that community engagement remains at the heart of everything we do.
